摘要

The rocks of Antarctica are obscured literally, and sometimes scientifically, by its ice. But drilling efforts are now showing what we can learn from the hard stuff. When it comes to Antarctica's history, ice cores get all the glory. Large-scale ice-drilling efforts, such as Europe's EPICA and Russia's Vostok cores, capture headlines and the lion's share of people and funding. After all, these cores contain air bubbles that are hundreds of thousands of years old, a frozen time capsule from Earth's icy past.
