Now advocates for public health are concerned that the field is being further undermined by dissent behind the doors of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one of the world's highest-profile public-health agencies. And many fear that if the United States is faced with a health crisis - an outbreak of pandemic flu, say, or the next SARS — the cracks will become chasms.
