(1) Everything is built out in columns, and we chose a fixed, left-side navigation to reference the DNA sequencing concept that runs through the site. (2) Underlying imagery helped contrast against the strict grid layout, along with the use of video. (3) The DNA pattern could be scaled from a macro state to a micro state. The layout possibilities were exponential, given the variation within the pattern. We were able to play with the columns, while still staying within the visual language. (4) The pattern was also used in various infographics - in this case, literally representing DNA. We took a simplified approach to communicate the changes DNA undergoes when exposed to microgravity. It was an effortless way of highlighting the changes that happen in outer space. (5) We were thrilled when we found we could implement a parallax lensflare in a place that made sense!
