摘要

Tornadoes, hurricanes, and snowstorms appearing in the forecast have a way of reminding IT executives to dou-ble-check their emergency plans. Even without help from Mother Nature, disaster recovery planning has been moving ever-higher on IT managers' to-do lists. Establishing one of the cornerstones of a disaster recovery plan—data replication or network backup— has become more difficult. The volume of data stored at enterprise data centers continues to grow, driven by everything from collaboration technologies (e.g. e-mail and instant messaging) to critical business applications (e.g. CRM and ERP). Simultaneously, IT managers are demanding shorter backup and recovery times, as they realize that even temporarily losing access to their data could put them out of business permanently.
