In every industry other than IT, patch is a pejorative term for a temporary fix. In enterprise IT security, patches are a permanent way of life. Do you manage them or do they manage you? Although vital to any IT security plan, patch management shouldn't be relegated to the security-response team. Well-timed patching is a fundamental part of quality IT.
