We live in a world where the hype for a future trend (along with its inevitable buzzword) often seems to arrive before the technology that would actually make that trend possible. So it was with some trepidation that we decided to devote this issue's cover story to Web 3.0, the next iteration of our fully connected world, even as it only begins to take shape. Why now? A number of new technologies seem to be converging. And if the current global financial crisis teaches us anything, it's that it's never too early to concern ourselves with our collective future.
