摘要

When I started at my first full-time job, some of my friends were still students. One of them had just begun to use email, and I was working at an organization that ran on email. For her, an email message was the big event of the day; I was getting hundreds per day. She would reply right away, and she expected her correspondents to do the same. Compared to work emails, and to getting a job done, personal email was a lower priority for me. It didn't take us long to figure out the disconnect in our expectations, but it was frustrating for both of us for a while. I was reminded about this during a recent vacation.
