Routine space tourism came a step closer on Sunday with the first independent flight by SpaceShipTwo, the craft on which VirginGalactic plans to take paying passengers on suborbital trips. The craft was released from its twin-fuselage mother ship, WhiteKnightTwo, at an altitude of 13.7 kilometres. From there it glided back down to Earth, and landed safely at Mojave Air and Space Port in California.
