摘要

The American Medical Association recently announced its intent to help local physician groups organize into unions. Additionally, the AMA is pushing Congress to change the current antitrust laws so that independent health professionals can collectively bargain with health plans. These initiatives may sound reasonable. Some physicians are confused and frustrated by the changes they've witnessed in the health care marketplace during the past few decades. Indeed, it's clear to all of us in health care that insurers and physicians must find more effective ways of working together. But allowing doctors to collectively bargain for payments and other contract terms is not the answer.
