Ahlstrom is introducing SMS (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) technology to its interleaved Sterile Barrier Systems (SBS) range of nonwovens for the medical industry called Reliance Tandem. Previously the interleaved offering consisted of crepe and wetlaid technologies but the company says it has included SMS in combination with existing technologies to provide the optimal combination of sterile barrier system sheets for sequential wrapping. Ahlstrom Reliance Tandem or interleaving combines two layers of SBS sheets, each engineered to offer specialised performance for sequential wrapping. The two layers are used together for flexibility in terms of performance, technology and cost for different applications.
