A year has passed since NTT launched Open Computer Network (OCN) services in December 1996. The number of customers has steadily increased, with service orders topping 100,000 as of the end of Nov. 1997. The resulting increase in traffic volumes and expansion of the network scale have further heightened the importance of quality and traffic management. This article describes the necessity and current state of related activities.
