Oceanography is a thriving profession in Spain-though it is still male-dominated. Women oceanographers currently represent 42 percent of Spanish marine researchers (Figure 1). This seemingly high percentage is not homogeneous across all work classifications. Overall, 26 percent of Spanish oceanographers are men with permanent positions, while only 11 percent of women have similar permanent positions (Figure 2).
