The number of BWTS retrofits carried out to date is rather small so most class societies, shipyards, contractors and suppliers are dealing with projects and technologies about which they have little or no experience. This means that project managers should assume that BWTS retrofit planning and execution timelines will be longer than usual for retrofit projects of this size and an early survey of the vessel is highly recommended. In this case, Coldharbour's engineers completed this nine months before installation on board a VLCC in China.
