According to an analysis performed by IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (IHS CERA), the shale gas exploration and discoveries across North America has more than doubled the size of the natural gas resources, enough to satisfy more than 100 years of consumption at current rates. While the gas prices are low, half of 1 800 trillion ft~3 (50.9 trillion m~3) of discovered resources in shale can be developed profitably. United States energy sector is changing. For power generation gas is replacing coal. It is estimated that natural gas demand in electricity generation shall double by 2030 from current 19 billion ft~3/d (537 million m~3/d).
