摘要

Narrow-bandwidth picosecond pulses of predetermined spectral and temporal shapes are generated withnhigh efficiency by frequency conversion of femtosecond pulses in lithium tantalate crystals with engineerednquasi-phase-matching structures. We give examples of the synthesis of Gaussian and super-Gaussian pico-nsecond pulses and also of a pair of synchronized phase-coherent picosecond pulses with a predeterminedncarrier-frequency difference. © 2009 Optical Society of American.

    The interaction between localized and propagating surface plasmons is investigated in a structure consistingof a two-dimensional periodic gold nanoparticle array, an SiO2 spacer, and a gold film. The resonance wave-lengths of the two types of surface plasmons supported by the structure are tailored by changing the goldnanoparticle size and the array period. An anticrossing of the resonance positions is observed in the reflec-tion spectra, demonstrating the strong coupling between localized and propagating surface plasmons.;
