Packaging's biggest players had another tough month in January as four top US firms filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and a series of closures and cutbacks were announced across Europe.rnIn the US, corrugated giant Smurfit-Stone, cartonboard group Chesapeake, PET packaging company Constar International and petrochemi-rncals producer LyondellBasell all filed for Chapter 11 as they looked to restructure to cope with the downturn.rnAs Packaging News went to press, a US court granted Smurfit-Stone Corporation the right to use up to $550m of its new $750m debtor-in-posses-sion credit facility which will allow it to continue trading.
