Suppliers recognise the huge advantage of tracking stock movements at a pallet and case level across the network between locations in real time. Taking this one step further and extending the visibility to retail store operations and, in some cases, down to item level, can provide suppliers with a degree of information granularity previously impossible. Improving supply chain visibility can generate substantial benefits for both retailer and supplier alike, but there are some hurdles. Consider, for example, the complexity of managing barcode and other technology-enabled solutions in parallel with RFID.
