While the PPMA show is all about solving today's packaging requirements, this year's exhibition also concerned itself with looking ahead. A corner of the show was devoted to research projects covering packaging machinery, processing equipment and information technology, with a number of key universities -including Bath and Lough-borough - taking part. Loughborough's project is perhaps the most revolutionary for packaging manufacturers and was carried out by the university's School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
