Outspoken blog The Huffington Post this month ordered users of bags for life to "wipe that smug grin off your face". They are, you see, a health risk (the bags, not the people), at least according to a group of experts who last month warned that germs could easily transfer between products bought on different occasions. Hugh Pennington, a professor of bacteriology at Aberdeen University, told BBC Radio 5 live that even washing the bags was "not a very good idea" and recommended that any bag that has contained raw meat be thrown away.
