Over twenty years have passed since the first convenience stores (CVSs) appeared in Japan. During this short period, there ahs been an explosive increase to some 450,000 Operating throughout Japan, repreasenting in a sense a form of social infrastructure. Against this background, this presentation will discuss the present status and prob- Lems of distribution in Japan and possible measures to counter special concerns for CVSs, with a focus on the following.
