Several months ago, educators, librarians, policy-makers, publishers, writers andnliteracy advocates of all stripes came together in Toronto to discuss and debatenjust what it would take to transform Canada into a reading society. Armed withnthe conviction that a literate and reading culture supports a creative, healthy,nsuccessful and dynamic society, some of the world's top thinkers on the subjectnpresented ideas, examples and approaches to laying the groundwork for nationalnreading strategies that are coordinated, sustainable and far-reaching.

The collaborations analysed span academia, civil society and government, from the grassroots to the national and global levels. The featured case studies are explored through the perspectives of both researchers and their partners in civil society and policy.
