Inorganic phosphate solubilization in soils can to some extent be attibuted to phosphate- solubilizing microbes. The phosphate-solubilizing ability of fungi has been reported to be greater than that of bacteria. However, there is little infor- mation on the phosphate-solubilizing fungi (PSF) originating form tropical forest soils where a wide biodiversity is commonly assumed. A laboratory study was conducted to determine the phosphate- solubilizing ability of newly-isolated PSF isolates from two tropical forest soils; i.e. Aek Godang Ultisol (North Sumatera) and Bintan Ultisol (Riau), Indonesia.
