Coriolis metering technology is seldom used by natural gas pipe line companies in the U.S. However, this situation may change in the near future. The American Gas Association (AGA) Transmission Measurement Committee (TMC) has just published an Engineering Technical Note on Coriolis flowme-ters intended for gas transmission and distribution pipe line service. The tech note provides a good overview of the current state of the art of this technology and suggests that it may now be a viable option for metering gas pipe line flows. Coriolis flowmeters have been used successfully for decades to meter liquid flows. How-ever, this technology is just coming to the fore for gas pipe line applications.
