With a number of state lawmakers in attendance, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett broke ground on the Panda Liberty project, an 829-MW natural-gas fueled power plant in Bradford County. The plant is expected to power up to 1 million homes in the Northeast, creating and supporting nearly 600 jobs in the community. According to private equity firm Panda Power Funds, the project is the first power plant deliberately located in the heart of the Marcellus Shale in order to take advantage of pricing and transportation costs. The plant is expected to be fully operational in 2016.
