Regulations of course are nothing to the new energy industry but in recent years the growth of the oil and gas business in the United States has caused officials from the federal, state and local governments to pay especially close attention to issues arising from resource development. This is particularly true since the shale revolution has brought oil and gas companies closer than before to communities that never had previously dealt with the industry. The era of instant communications created by the rapid advance of the Internet and social networking has also brought the industry under close scrutiny. As a result, energy law is now a vital segment of major law firms across the country. Since joining the law firm of Mayer Brown in 1978, partner David Bloom has gained recognition as a knowledgeable regulatory attorney who concentrates his practice on transactions in the energy sector. His particular areas of activity include investments in the energy sector, natural gas and power marketing, natural gas storage and transportation contracts and regulatory matters, and electric sector investment and regulation.
