A new Canadian pipeline champion emerges from the 2001 Mastio & Co. pipeline customer satisfaction rankings-Nova Gas Transmission Ltd.rnPoised to capitalize on arbitrage opportunities arising from confusion, bungled and/or ongoing deregulation and new energy policies of their southern neighbors, Canadian natural gas pipelines deserve special attention. Ninety percent of Canada's population may cluster along its 6,379-kilometer southern border with the U.S., but Canadian regulations, rate structures, environmental statutes and management philosophies often differ greatly from even their closest south-of-the border neighbors. For example, someone not accustomed to Canadian operations might find a general lack of pipeline flexibility, said Max Feldman, senior vice president of customer sales and service for TransCanada Pipelines.
