As fires blazed across California last week, the state's fire agency reported that sparks from San Diego Gas & Electric's transmission lines likely caused three 2007 fires that resulted in two deaths and burned nearly 200,000 acres in San Diego County. Southern California was besieged by about 20 wildfires last October, which knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of customers, downed several major power lines and forced the evacuation of more than 500,000 people.
