Tepid interest among utilities in broadband-over-power-line services has led to financial problems for BPL provider Ambient, which reported that it will need to get more money to continue operations. As of December 31, the company had a cash balance of $2.3 million, and said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it will "need to raise additional capital in order to meet our liquidity needs and satisfy our current business plan prior to the receipt of significant revenues from BPL solutions." The company added that uncertainty about Ambient's ability to continue "as a going concern ... may make it more difficult for us to raise additional capital when needed."
