Spanish energy company Repsol and train manufacturer Talgo have signed an agreement to develop hydrogen-powered trains in the Iberian Peninsula, the companies said July 19. Repsol will supply renewable hydrogen to the railway network, while Talgo is already developing a project to produce hydrogen fuel cell trains, the companies said in a statement. Repsol is a major producer and consumer of hydrogen in the Iberian Peninsula, using the gas in its oil refining and chemicals processes. The company plans to develop its industrial centers into “multi-energy hubs” with renewable hydrogen as “a strategic pillar in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050,” it said.
