Offering contracts to 5 GW of onshore wind capacity between 2019 and 2025 could save UK consumers £1.6 billion, energy consultant BVG Associates said June 11. The report, supported by wind developers ScottishPower Renewables, Vattenfall, Innogy and Statkraft, says the levelized energy costs of new onshore wind would drop below the government’s forecast electricity price from 2023, delivering net benefits to UK consumers over the 15-year period of CfD support. The analysis considers five new Contract for Difference (CfD) auctions held from 2019 and at 18-month intervals thereafter, each with a maximum capacity of 1 GW.
