Without new capacity or demand side management, a hard winter in 2016 would threaten France's security of supply transmission system operator RTE said July 9. Supply-demand conditions are comfortable at present, but France is facing "a significant reduction in production capacity as a result of oil- and coal-fired plants closing," the gridco said. Some 7.7 GW will not be able to comply with the Industrial Emissions Directive and will be forced off the system. RTE is assuming that if there were plans to retrofit these plants with air quality equipment, they would have been announced by now.
