Italy's latest solar photovoltaic support decree, Conto Energia V, has been in place since end-August. The decree is designed to run to the end of the first half of 2013, approximately when the government believes PV will have reached the grid parity in Italy. Funds are draining away, however, and developers clearly sense the boom is nearing an end. "The problem is the €6.7 billion [annual cumulative cost] cap on the PV budget," Fabio Patti, Managing Director of Yingli Green Energy Italy, told Platts. "Right now there is less than €400 million left [in the budget]." In effect, Italy's subsidized solar PV era has less than 1.5 GW of capacity left to run, taking the country's total to around 17 GW.
