Iberdrola saw its net power output fall by 6.9% year-on-year to 31.33 TWh in Q3 2012, largely due to steep production drops in the UK (ScottishPower) and to a lesser extent Spain, the Spanish power producer said October 9. For the first nine months of the year, overall production fell by 7.3% to 100.12 TWh, also reflecting declines in the UK and in Spain. By market area, third quarter output decreased by 34.4% to 3.60 TWh in the UK and by 3.6% to 13.68 TWh in Spain, while holding steady at 10.28 TWh in Latin America and increasing by 1.3% to 3.22 TWh in the US and by 10.3% to 0.55 TWh in other countries. For the January-September period, output by region was: Spain, down 13.6% to 42.06 TWh; the UK, down 19.2% to 13.77 TWh; the US, up 13.5% to 12.57 TWh; Latin America, up 0.8% to 29.88 TWh; and other countries, up 20.1% to 1.85 TWh. Iberdrola noted that the overall amount of power distributed in the third quarter increased by 0.2% to 47.77 TWh and climbed by 3.6% to 144.01 TWh in the first nine months of the year.
