The Swiss government has recommended that parliament approve a plan put forward by Reto Wehrli, a member of the Nationalrat, and promoted by the heads of the main political parties to prepare a super-grid linking Switzerland's pumped storage power stations to both the offshore wind farms being built in the North Sea, and the ambitious Desertec solar project in the Mahgreb states.rnThe energy from these renewable sources could be stored in the Alps where, in addition to existing pumped storage hydro plants, at least four more are planned with a total installed rating of about 5,400 MW.
