GIFI, representing photovoltaic technology providers, believes Italy's national action plan prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development is not in line with the 30-40%/yr growth rates that the PV sector has been demonstrating. In a June 29 statement GIFI focuses on the plan's projection that installed solar PV capacity will reach 8,000 MW in 2020. It notes that the University of Padua recently completed a study assuming a growth rate of 16%/yr, taking PV capacity to 15,000-MW by 2020. The action plan's projection barely represents growth of 5%/yr and a correction is necessary, GIFI said.
