German prompt prices have blossomed in response to warmer weather and firmer gas prices, while year-ahead baseload power dipped below recent highs in the two week period to July 9. Cal 11 base was trading as low as €51.10/MWh on July 7, more than €4 below its intraday 2010 high on June 21. A mild recovery saw Cal 11 trading at €51.70/MWh midday July 9 on the back of firmer fuel input prices. German prompt prices firmed further July 9 as temperatures were forecast to remain above 30 C into week 28, increasing the likelihood of heat-related outages and capacity restrictions while wind output remained low, traders said.
