Endesa partners Enel and Acciona appear to be a step closer to negotiating the terms of their imminent divorce, following January 7 reports in Spanish financial daily Cinco Dfas that Banco Santander is willing to lend Enel €1.3 billion to help finance the purchase of Acciona's 25% stake in the Spanish utility. Enel is negotiating the remainder of the necessary funding with Spanish bank BBVA and seven other financial institutions.rnEnel will control Endesa with a 92% stake, while it remains to be seen if the long-delayed creation of a new renewable energy group with assets owned by Acciona and Endesa goes ahead. Enel acquired 67% of Endesa and Acciona 25% when the Italian energy group and Spanish construction and services group took over Endesa under a 2007 agreement. The agreed price for the 25% was some €11 billion.
