The European Commission has approved exemptions from EU rules on regulated pricing and third party grid access for two power interconnectors to be built between Ireland and the UK, the EC said December 22.rnThe EC said that the two new high tension lines planned by independent transmission developer Imera would more than double power interconnection between the two countries.rnDublin-based Imera is planning a 350-MW subsea link between Bangor in north Wales and a point just south of the Irish capital, and a second similar link between southwest Wales and southeast Ireland.rnThe Commission said Imera's two proposed projects would have to compete with a third project proposed by Ireland's transmission system operator Eirgrid (see above). Northern Ireland and Scotland are already linked via the 500-MW Moyle Interconnector.
