The government is to maintain existing feed-in tariffs for wind power, the environment ministry said December 16. The ruling is based on the terms of the previous decree issued in July 2006, said the ministry. This is despite opposition from energy regulator CRE, which believes the tariffs are too high and should reduce as wind farm size increases. For installations that operate for more than 2,400 hours/year, the CRE proposes "a more substantial tariff depreciation that would diminish remuneration." However, referring to its 50-point plan on renewable energy published in November, the ministry said: "Measure 23 provides for the maintenance, at least until 2012, of the feed-in tariff at the level agreed in 2006."
