Canton Bern is considering new legislation that would increase the current average electricity price of 20 cts/kWh by 3, 6 or 9 centimes (15%, 30% or 45%) depending on the category, raising up to SFr60 million for measures to reduce the energy consumption of 50,000 buildings in the canton.rnAccording to Energy Director Barbara Eggerthis "budget neutral incentive tax" would mean that subscribers who reduce their consumption would benefit either from an electricity price bonus or a tax reduction while those who use more power would be made to pay extra. The revised cantonal energy law would oblige communes to draw up an "energy guideline plan" including objectives for the promotion of renewable energy sources.
