Electricite de France has been forced to amend a long-term power supply agreement with Exeltium, the group of large energy-intensive industrial consumers, after the European Commission investigated the contract for violations of EC competition rules.rnUnder the contract, EDF is to sell large volumes of power on a 15- to 25-year basis to the consortium, including Alcan, Arcelor-Mittal, Arkema, Air Liquide, paper maker UPM, Slovay and Rhodia. Under the agreement, first announced in January 2007, the companies were to help underwrite investment in new generating capacity.rnDetails of the original deal were not made public by the participants, but media reports in January 2007 suggested the agreed volumes were to cover around 55% of the 40rnTWh/yr that Exeltium had been looking for.
