The price of UK Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) is set to fall in the next financial year as more green projects come on-line, according to recent research in Platts Power UK. Platts ROC price marker estimates that the price will fall to £42 per MWh in the next financial year as more renewable capacity starts generating and more biomass is co-fired in coal plant. This is a marked change in the level of ROC prices for the current obligation period. The latest auction of ROCs from generating stations holding Scottish Renewable Order (SRO) contracts was completed in January. Over 150,000 ROCs were purchased at an average price of £47.18/MWh. This compares with a figure of £46.12/MWh for the 129,000 ROCs sold in the last such auction in October. Both auctions were for ROCs produced in the current financial year.

7. Commodity prices have risen sharply since 2006. This may benefit developing countries specialized on primary exports, but poverty may increase.
