Pipeline safety bills are likely to be taken up this spring by the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, according to Democratic counsel to the committee Ian Jefferies. The bills are in response to a recent cluster of oil and gas pipeline ruptures that killed 13 people in Pennsylvania and California. US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has told state regulators that the highest levels of his department were working to respond to the incidents.
