Florida Power & Light is quickening the pace of battery storage installations at its solar facilities, helping to push up the total amount of new battery systems installed industry-wide by almost 10% in the early part of 2018. At the end of the fourth quarter 2017 there was a total of 604 MW of battery storage installed by power generating companies around the country. There has been an estimated 56-MW of battery systems installed this year. On March 9, Florida Power & Light said it installed a 10-MW/40-MWh battery storage system at its 74.5 MW Babcock Ranch Solar facility in Charlotte County. In mid-February the Juno Beach, Florida-based utility installed a 4-MW/16-MWh battery system at its 74.5-MW Citrus Solar facility in Desoto County. Both of the solar facilities were initially brought online in 2016.
