Canadian Olympus Pacific Minerals’ Phuoc nSon gold plant in central Vietnam is almost nready and scheduled to be commissioned nin the first quarter of 2011, the company nsaid late Monday. The 60,000 oz/year nprocessing plant was originally expected to nbe completed in the fourth quarter 2010 but nconstruction was hampered by bad weather. nMeanwhile, Olympus expects production in Q1 2011 to be lower at its Bong Mieu gold nprocessing plant, also in central Vietnam, ncompared with Q4 2010 because of lower ngrades being processed, the company said nearlier. Ore from the Phuoc Son mine was nsent to the Bong Mieu plant for processing nunder a trucking permit, which expired on nDecember 31. The company has filed for an nextension to compensate for the late startup nof the plant at Phuoc Son. “While first quar-nter production will be negatively impacted nby non-treatment of Phuoc Son ore at Bong nMieu, overall company production for the nremainder of 2011 is expected to result in na 45% increase in ounces produced versus n2010,” the company added. The company nhad targeted output of 35,000-40,000 oz for n2010, and available data show it produced n24,866.70 oz in Q1-Q3.
