摘要

Since Polar Biology was founded in 1982, the community of polar biologists and, consequently, the volume of the journal has grown considerably. While in the early years most authors were from a few-most English speaking-countries, Polar Biology is characterized today by a highly international community of authors and readers. Following the tradition introduced by Polar Biology's founding editor Gotthilf Hempel, the current editorial board still feels the obligation to help promising scientists from various countries to communicate their results in an internationally recognized journal, while at the same time the high scientific standards of the published articles are maintained.
