摘要

In olden days,a local government would use the local town crier to walk the streets ringing a bell proclaiming the latest announcement. The person would then nail the proclamation to a post or doorway. In preparing for this, I learned that there is an American Guild of Town Criers that was formed in 1997. So, I guess their popularity is not as devastated as I assumed. In most cases today, the local government uses newspapers for public notification. More digitally adept communities use e-mail or social media websites to keep the populous informed on the latest important announcements or proclamations. The reason I bring this topic up is that our president released a proclamation on Nov. 14, 2013 that I did not see anywhere in the news. Nor did I get any announcements from even the greenie organizations about it. President Obama declared that from that day forward, November 15 is to be known as America Recycles Day.
