Japan was an early pioneer in the area of environmental frendly polymers and plastic waste. As a graduate student during my literature research, I came across names of many scientists publising in the field from Japan. A grant from the Swedish-Japan Foundation gave me the opportunity to meet these scientists in Japan. A trip organized by Professor Okamura from Tokyo and the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo presented fantastic inputs on renewable, degradable and environmental friendly polymers and also included a visit to the Plastic Waste Management Institute.
