ON THE CLASSIFICATION AND TERMINOLOGY OF RIVER HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANTS

摘要

The hundredth anniversary of the first domestic: commercial hydroelectric plant was noted in 1990. The total number of hydroelectric plants that, had operated in the former USSR exceeded 6,000 in the post-war years. At the present time, more than 400 large, medium, and small hydroelectric plants are operating in countries of the Commonwealth of National Governments. In addition, certain debatable questions that have remained unaddressed concerning the classification and terminology of hydroelectric power plants remain, despite the vast experience of domestic hydraulic power engineering and steady progress in this field. The criteria enumerated below for the classification of river hydroelectric power plants are, in general, characteristic- of both large- and small-scale entities. These criteria apply to the hydroelectric- plant on the whole as a power-generating entity, and do not touch upon individual structures, even the most critical (for example, the powerhouses), water-power, and electroteclmical equipment, etc. The proposed criteria for classification and terms are far from perfect, and should be defined more precisely with consideration given to the comments and opinions of specialists.
