GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy's ESBWR nuclear reactor design could be put into a second round review, or at least delayed substantially, as the resource-constrained UK regulators grapple with meeting government deadlines for bringing new plants on-line by about 2018. Cliff Harris, GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy, Vice President, Europe, said this month that the ESBWR is not being dropped from the UK generic design assessment process, but acknowledged that GE-H has "asked for a re-phasing of the program." He said the vendor was still in discussions with the about what this would mean and that it was too early to say definitely. "It may mean that our [reactor design] gets delayed a bit and then catches up later. It's too early to say exactly," Harris said.
